Math 1050

Reflective Writing-

Over the years I know personally I have taken math classes and consistently asked myself "when am I going to use this?" This project really applied to real world experiences and made me realize how we can use math outside of the classroom setting. I've taken road trips with my family before, and my dad was always really good at predicting the time it would take based on how fast we drove and an approximate total in gas that we would need. Now i see how he was able to do this. Calculating simple things like fuel costs which can give you a minimum and a maximum total cost for the trip can help to ensure that you have enough money and won't run out during the trip. This also has a connection to other classes such as physics when you calculate average speeds, consistency, and high and low points. While I have only done high school physics so far, I can definitely see me using similar formulas when I do take the college level physics courses. I also see this sort of logic reasoning and creating of functions coming in handy when I take future math classes. Overall, I really enjoyed doing this project, while it may have been difficult and time consuming, it ended up teaching me a lot more than I initially thought it would.
