Reflective Writing-
My initial thought when I learned about this assignment was instant fear. I couldn't imagine speaking to an individual I've never met and asking them to grade me on an interview about their career. I tried putting off the assignment hoping the teacher would just cancel it but finally I realized that wasn't going to happen. The point of this class was to overcome these fears and use our communication skills to get this interview done. I finally just decided to go out and get contact information and to get started. I chose the Dermatology field, because next to Oncology this has always been one of my other career choices that I am passionate about. After this interview its lead me toward an even tougher decision about which field I want to go into, both are amazing and I am passionate about both of them.
Some of the lessons I have learned from this assignment was to not always doubt yourself. I had no idea that I could actually get over my fears and interview a complete stranger, but I was able to and I was able to use my communication skills I have learned in this class. This has definitely helped me for my future because now that I have done it, if I need to interview some one again, whether its in a job setting or another career interview I know what questions to ask, how to keep things going in a timely manner and keep the interview on task in order to get the information that is important. These skills are important because everyone needs communication skills in the future, even if it's just for talking to friends or bosses in a job. Also, this has taught me to overcome fears which shows me that no matter what situation I get put it in life, I can overcome my nerves.
If I had to give someone advice on creating good networks I would say it is vitally important because it can help you get information you need in making career choices along with helping you get into that career field when school is completed, and it's much more helpful to know someone in the field and not going in with no knowledge or connections.
